About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

VideoGrapsing
I went looking for stills from Bava’s Kill Baby Kill as part of a different mission and came across a full cut on Youtube with English subtitles. This looks like a job for videogrep! Eventually I got something out of … Continue reading
A Bava design
I saw Jim’s post about his t-shirt daily create and decided to steal his idea, ’cause that’s what I do. Basically I wanted to get more Bava in the bava logo. I like the idea of bringing imagery into lettering, … Continue reading
V for Vignelli
I’m glad that people appreciate The Vignelli Canon. It was written for people with a design background, but it works for those who claim to have little: the little booklet offered great insight to graphic design, with me someone who … Continue reading

Friday the 13th
We’re planning on covering our final Bava film, Rabid Dogs, tomorrow on Friday the 13th. And as it falls on the 13th year, it’s double bad luck. Maybe it would have been more appropriate to do Twitch of the Death … Continue reading
Of nature and hippies
One of the things we didn’t get to talk about from Twitch of the Death Nerve was the octopus or squid or whatever that thing was. I don’t know why it stood out for me – it’s only in a … Continue reading
All’s well that ends well
I had never seen Twitch of the Death Nerve before. I guess I just figured I had outgrown Friday the 13th type movies, so I never put it in my Netflix queue. After the opening credits, we hear a fly … Continue reading
Fumetti and mirrors
Danger: Diabolik was Bava’s first and only big budget film. He had been used to making $50,000 films. Here, Dino De Laurentiis gave him $3 million to work with. Bava left $2.6 million on the table. Since his forte had long been … Continue reading
Art Imitating Art
As I watched Danger: Diabolik, I thought that hitchhiking scene looked very similar to something from a Heavy Metal comic strip from my degenerate youth. Not a direct copy, but a similar idea. Today I was fortunate to get a … Continue reading
Friday Morning Bava Breakfast
We had a morning edition of the BavaFilmFest today, discussing Kill, Baby… Kill!. I said a little about the Hitchcock connection before, but today Jim brought up similarities to The Shining which hadn’t even occurred to me, being as dense as … Continue reading
The Dead Eyes of Dr. Dracula
Next in line on the Bava film fest is Kill, Baby… Kill! – Operazione paura (Operation Fear) in Italian, and known in Germany as Die Toten Augen Des Dr. Dracula (The Dead Eyes of Dr. Dracula). Bava’s titles frequently played off … Continue reading
