About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

Zine vs machine
I hadn’t paid much attention to zines until recently. The Gettin’ Air episode with Dr. Anne Pasek talked about a zine-based conference raised my interest, and then some criticisms of our library brochure led me to slap together to above … Continue reading
BOOM!
The good people at Metafilter introduced me to NEEDS MORE BOOM today, which will apparently script Bayhem into any movie scene. My first thought was to see what it would do with Nicholson’s “You can’t handle the truth” scene, which … Continue reading
“When a plan comes together”
The best part of co-teaching, the most fun, is seeing how different ideas come together. As we’re planning AI106, I get to see all the genius conceptions gel, and hopefully make more of my thoughts than I could on my … Continue reading
Poeta ex machina
A question that’s always interested me, and perhaps only interested me, is “What do we mean by digital storytelling?” I don’t buy the storytelling with digital tools definition because that encompasses pretty much all storytelling these days. I’ve long thought … Continue reading
There is only the dance
With AI art in the news in recent months, I decided to re-read Count Zero. I had read this decades ago, and it introduced me to the assemblage art of Joseph Cornell. One of the plots of the novel involves … Continue reading
So let’s rock!
Today’s Daily Create was in honor of World Rock Day, which I hadn’t heard of previously. When I saw the prompt on Mastodon I thought of photographing a rock in my yard, but then I saw it was a different … Continue reading
Everything Is the Same as It Ever Was
I’ve always wanted to do the David Lee Roth audio remix assignment but never came up with a good use for it. Maybe I still haven’t, but I made this thing: The other day I saw a tweet from Open … Continue reading

OER/Open Pedagogy outreach and advocacy
Before I was a librarian I worked in the printing/publishing industry. I left because it looked like the only jobs that would be left in the industry would be for salespeople, and sales is not what I want to do. … Continue reading
OP/CIL
In thinking about how open pedagogy relates to different theoretical frameworks, I picked critical information literacy because it’s something I want to know more about. In addition to reading the Critical Information Literacy article, I also looked over Putting Critical … Continue reading
Record Store Day’s big score
There was some impromptu vinylcasting on ds106radio yesterday, ending up with Jim playing Sonic Youth’s Goo album. One of the songs was Cinderella’s Big Score. The title echoes the Shaft sequel, so it was just asking for the ds106 mashup … Continue reading
