About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

“There is no joy in the tavern as on the road there to.”
Jim and I talked about Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian this morning. We have had a lot of fun with discussions like this, going back to the Bavafest and Wire106. The talk ranged from history to mythos, past to present, Lovecraft … Continue reading
Dr. Roadrunner or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Daily Create
I recently finished listening to an audiobook of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. There are thousands of great sentences in the book, but one quote jumped out at me in particular: So when I saw today’s Daily Create, I immediately had … Continue reading
Radio nostalgia
As we’re entering radio week in ds106, I started to think about my first venture into this project. I joined ds106 several years ago as an open online participant. Now I’m teaching it, so I guess the students has become … Continue reading
Go west, young man
For our fourth round of ds106radio live tweeting, we had another two-fer: “Retribution” from Sears Radio Theater and “Gun Shy” from Gunsmoke. I liked the way people picked up on the sound details: I can hear the horses making noises … Continue reading
The Holliday and Hickock Hour
Our Wednesday Western106 tweet-along featured two tales – the Gunsmoke episode “Doc Holliday” and “Aces and Eights” from the Frontier Gentleman series. Unlike our two previous shows, these featured narration as well as dialogue. The listeners had mixed feelings about … Continue reading
Letter from Lago
Today’s TDC was Create a Pony Express Postmark. We were supposed to “Design a postmark stamp for the Pony Express of the Modern Age,” but I didn’t read that part until just now. I had the idea to play around … Continue reading
High Noon at night
Our Tuesday night tweet-along featured High Noon. Monday’s show was a radio adaptation (Shane) whereas this one was the soundtrack of a film. It made an interesting comparison. The radio program actually had less sound production – a lot less … Continue reading
“Come back, Shane!”
We had a good, if sparsely attended, first tweet-along. We listened to a radio production of Shane, featuring Alan Ladd and Van Heflin, two of the stars of the movie. Radio was once a big enough thing that major motion … Continue reading
The Good, the Bad, and the Oblivion
I found this thing yesterday: http://ensalada-de-lengua-de-pajaritos.tumblr.com/post/138891094972/seven-surprising-things-that-are-bad-for-your and when I saw today’s Daily Create I knew I had a use for it. I applied what I had learned before about lining up images with animated GIFs. After that trick, I cut … Continue reading
Ramble of the day, 2/7/16
Can I come in with the broad question (such as “what does the data tell us?”), and a grounded theory approach, and continue on with my research? AK highlights the iterative nature of real world research in his post. As … Continue reading
