About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

Remix, quick-draw style
Earlier today, Jim tweeted some pictures of architecture around his ‘hood. One in particular caught my eye: The crying eyes of Medusa. pic.twitter.com/WMMsHw0ZQ3 — Jim Groom (@jimgroom) April 2, 2016 Medusa makes me think Harryhausen, so I had to try … Continue reading
Canna Van Cleef
So this morning’s Metafiltering introduced me to Ostagram, which looked like an interesting tool for visual mashups. The question is, is this a tool normal people can use? There’s a link to Github, there’s a lot of what I think … Continue reading
Fun with film
I like what people have done with their video essays this week. Many have commented that they are not used to looking at movies analytically, which is normal. We watch them for entertainment, not to think about how they are … Continue reading
ds106 at its best
I think things like this are ds106 at its best. Kristopher took an existing assignment, put a #western106 twist on it and essentially made it a remix of the work the class has been doing this semester: Which DS106 Character … Continue reading
“No, I’ve always been a bartender.”
Here is Jim and I talking about My Darling Clementine, John Ford’s classic Western. Jim brought up the noir connections, and there are many, but one we sort of missed was cinematographer Joseph MacDonald’s pedigree. The visual style of noir … Continue reading
Plan to fail
Based on Jim’s recommendations, I thought I should read Blood Meridian. Since my time is limited, I picked up the audiobook version so I could listen on my commute. It’s not the best way to do any book, due to … Continue reading
Roadrunner ranch
For today’s Daily Create we had to make a sign for our ranch, as named by the Farm Name Generator. Mine came up with Roadrunner Vineyard, which was too easy to pass up. I went to the Noun Project to … Continue reading
Rustling the radio
Everybody made great progress with their radio shows before the break. It looks sounds like everything should come together without a hitch. We have a variety of programs in the works – a worldwide western news show, a murder mystery, … Continue reading
“There is no joy in the tavern as on the road there to.”
Jim and I talked about Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian this morning. We have had a lot of fun with discussions like this, going back to the Bavafest and Wire106. The talk ranged from history to mythos, past to present, Lovecraft … Continue reading
Dr. Roadrunner or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Daily Create
I recently finished listening to an audiobook of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. There are thousands of great sentences in the book, but one quote jumped out at me in particular: So when I saw today’s Daily Create, I immediately had … Continue reading
