About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

“his wisdom must walk hand and hand with his idiocy”
I added some earth tones, which may make the image look more dirty than aged, but perhaps it will work either way. I also worked in the Statue of Liberty silhouette, taken from the closing scene of The Planet of … Continue reading
Working towards the Quarter Millennium
In honor of the Semiquincentennial, the Bisesquicentennial, the Sestercentennial, or the Quarter Millennium, I thought I’d try to do a visual mashup of The New Colossus and Ozymandias. I fully expect this not to work, but maybe I will learn … Continue reading
Death Weasel might like it…
The Bull Thistle Gallery has been running a Summit Challenge series, a kind of a Monthly Create for area artists. I’ve been interested in participating, but haven’t had the time, expertise or persistence to make any of my ideas work. … Continue reading
The politeness of psychetecture
A friend of mine expressed willingness to display some of my artwork in his shop/event space, so I’ve been contemplating what I might have to say about the works. This has always challenged me. The work is strictly nonrepresentational, so … Continue reading
Works in progress
I’ve been working on one or two new paintings this week – as in, it may or may not be a diptych. I’ve also been photographing them as they evolve, which gives me the opportunity to play with GIMP and … Continue reading
The Anti-Bob
I thought I would give filming my painting process a try again. I was trying something different, as in working on a much smaller scale than usual. I was also working with absolutely no plan, which probably shows in the … Continue reading
“Are we there yet?”
So here is my painting progress so far. Right now I think it’s at a “stop and contemplate” stage. The scale makes it difficult. At 4 by 5 feet, it takes some distance to take it all in, and my … Continue reading
Where do we go now…
I tried working with curves before, and very quickly found myself at a point where I couldn’t figure out where to go next. So I hung it on the wall where I can think about it for months on end. … Continue reading
Quitting Time?
I think it’s getting close. I touched it up a little to bring more light into the picture. In some parts, where it’s barely noticeable, I think it worked. The bit on the left may have been too much. As … Continue reading
Coloring outside the lines
I’m continuing to document my painting process. This is a new thing for me. I used to mainly go with the flow, occasionally stop and think, and sometimes discuss work with a mentor. As I looked him up, I found … Continue reading
