About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

The politeness of psychetecture
A friend of mine expressed willingness to display some of my artwork in his shop/event space, so I’ve been contemplating what I might have to say about the works. This has always challenged me. The work is strictly nonrepresentational, so … Continue reading
Those darned socks
Somehow I missed the sock thing when it happened in ds106. Or maybe I dismissed it since I’m more of a t-shirt person than a sock guy. Anyway, there was a Kickstarter reward level, but something unfortunately fell through and … Continue reading
Why we #MAD
Several years ago I started an art project by stealing (with blessing) an idea from Brother O’Mara, where I make small skull-like objects out of polymer clay and leave them around town for people to find. I piloted the idea … Continue reading
To Walk of Life and Die in LA
It’s been a while since I contributed to the Walk of Life Project, and an even longer while since I watched To Live and Die in LA, so why not kill two birds with one mashup? As far as Walk … Continue reading
Indecpherability and unintelligibility go hand-in-hand
Today’s Daily Create asked us to creatively decipher the Voynich manuscript, which I may or may not have heard of before. And since indecpherability and unintelligibility go hand-in-hand, I thought I would pair a page of the text with Adriano … Continue reading
“Who has angered the volcano god?”
Way back in 1986, The Dead Milkmen basically renamed the periodic table as “the goddamn periodic table of elements.” At least for me. So when I saw Bryan Mathers’ latest remix challenge, I had to do something. Unfortunately I didn’t … Continue reading
Props to propaganda
Propaganda was a big hit this week, which is perhaps predictable given the nature of the assignments. Even so, there was some great work, and it’s all worth checking out. One I’d like to highlight comes from Cinder’s Wonderland. Note … Continue reading
“…like choosing your favorite snack”
https://oblivion.university/audio/d332fae6-acb1-4668-9b52-130084c56985.mp3 Hmm, that’s an interesting question. In ds106, voting for post of the week is like choosing your favorite snack. It helps showcase great work and encourages participation. While consequences might seem harsh, maybe gentle reminders could help encourage more … Continue reading
Tech Noir Connections
Wouldn’t Want to Hear This on the Radio! is an excellently done PSA that hints at a larger story. How would other course characters react to the announcement? Would some of them be forces behind the issue? Or – maybe … Continue reading
Today in death race news…
Jim suggested the idea of doing a news report on an event from a tech-noir film, which sounded fun to me so I ran with it. I watched Death Race 2000 recently so I decided to work with that, even … Continue reading
