“his wisdom must walk hand and hand with his idiocy”

I added some earth tones, which may make the image look more dirty than aged, but perhaps it will work either way. I also worked in the Statue of Liberty silhouette, taken from the closing scene of The Planet of the Apes.

The image was getting lost in the background, so I highlighted it a bit more. Perhaps too much. I stenciled in a series of rectangles, which might evoke a filmstrip. There are thirty of them, but that symbolism will probably go unnoticed. I think they should to be lighter. I also stenciled in a couple lines from Winthrop’s Model of Christian Charity, because why not be heavy-handed?

And if I’m going to be heavy-handed, why not go all out? The next stencil layer mashes up Ozymandias with The New Colossus, rearranging some words to read:

gates shall stand
from land to land
Mother of Exiles
sneer of cold command
refuse your poor
stamped on these lifeless things
send the homeless to the door
boundless and bare
with silent lips
and despair

I feel like the lettering gets lost because that background has too much chromatic intensity. I will have to ponders ways to address that. On the other hand, that unclarity might draw a viewer in for a close-up look.
