About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

Bad Guy Business Cards
Did I make up this crazy thing? Then I guess that means I should do something with it. So here’s mob boss Paulie Cicero. You don’t want to be in business with him, because you have to come up with … Continue reading
Experimenting in the blog
I’ve done minimal experimenting with this blog. Made my own banner and changed the background color, added a few plugins… and that’s it. When I set it up, I totally ignored the main domain, above the blog, so it still … Continue reading
re: An Evening with Gardner Campbell
flickhuck4lyfe, in reflecting on Gardner Campbell’s talk, asks, “How much more will they know than I did when I was their age?” When one of my friends was in law school, he observed that “These lawyers and professors don’t really … Continue reading
Fries n’ chips
Moore’s Law says something about the exponential growth of computing power. Techy people can explain it better than I. But exponential growth and supersizing are related concepts, so let’s stuff Morgan Spulock’s fries into Gordon Moore’s mouth. Apparently he has … Continue reading

Shortened Harry
The movie as radio assignment intrigued me. I have a few soundtrack recording, like Quincy Jones’ In The Heat Of The Night and Lalo Schifrin’s score for Dirty Harry. In these movies, we hear in the ambient background noise an … Continue reading
Bad Guy Business Cards
So I thought I’d try submitting an assignment, just to see what happens. Probably not the most inventive idea – just something inspired by something else I ran into. Apparently, street gangs in Chicago, like the Hell’s Devils, used to … Continue reading
your friendly neighborhood gargoyle
He lives right around the corner. He has red glowing eyes, and a damaged horn on his head so you can see the metal structure underneath. Kinda like a terminator. I thought he’d fit with my theme: the glowing eyes … Continue reading

I do not want to kill you I want to help you
I was curious about the Google Translate Fail assignment. Is this something I would need to be bilingual to do? I only speak English, and I’m not as good at that as I should be. I am interested in translation … Continue reading
Rapt and rent
I have built simple websites and pages before, and even used my old PC as a server for a digital library project, but setting up a webserver and domain was new to me. I sorta know some of what was … Continue reading
