About raptnrent: I got the name from my keys - R Apt and R Ent for the back door to my apartment and the back door to the house. I liked that they were also words: Rapt, meaning enthralled, riveted, captivated, and Rent, meaning torn asunder, violently wrenched. I thought it made for an interesting juxtaposition, open to all kinds of interpretations.

It’s getting better all the time.
Jim and I were talking about how we were going to divide up our parts of leading the class. One of the ideas we came up with was a collaborative Google Doc where we could both write down our thoughts … Continue reading
“Let’s go do some crimes.” *
The True Crime class Jim Groom and I have been working on starts tomorrow, and I’m pretty excited about it. The topic is so compelling – who doesn’t love a good story of violence and corruption and crime and justice? But it … Continue reading
Icecast
Ice T has had quite the career trajectory – from rapping about LA gang life to playing a gang leader in films to singing about killing police to playing a cop on TV. There’s a crime aspect at every stage. … Continue reading
All’s well that ends well
I had never seen Twitch of the Death Nerve before. I guess I just figured I had outgrown Friday the 13th type movies, so I never put it in my Netflix queue. After the opening credits, we hear a fly … Continue reading
TV on the radio on the web
This week’s Crime Time started out, as always, with our Gila Copter theme from the Revolting Cocks. Alert listener @onepercentyello pointed out that the main voice on the track belongs to Timothy Leary. I should have known that, but I … Continue reading
Fumetti and mirrors
Danger: Diabolik was Bava’s first and only big budget film. He had been used to making $50,000 films. Here, Dino De Laurentiis gave him $3 million to work with. Bava left $2.6 million on the table. Since his forte had long been … Continue reading
Art Imitating Art
As I watched Danger: Diabolik, I thought that hitchhiking scene looked very similar to something from a Heavy Metal comic strip from my degenerate youth. Not a direct copy, but a similar idea. Today I was fortunate to get a … Continue reading
Dangle
For this week’s Crime Time Radio, I was going to go with a crime and punishment theme, but I ended up taking a song of hanging, Led Zeppelin’s Gallows Pole, and looking at its ancestry and variants. It’s commonly traced … Continue reading
Friday Morning Bava Breakfast
We had a morning edition of the BavaFilmFest today, discussing Kill, Baby… Kill!. I said a little about the Hitchcock connection before, but today Jim brought up similarities to The Shining which hadn’t even occurred to me, being as dense as … Continue reading
Push the little daisies and make them come up
Our friend Talky Tina challenged us to make something nicer with flowers. I thought this lonely garbage can could use some brightening up. A few flower decals should help. Now it looks much happier, don’t you think?
